Best flat top grills

Whether you’re in the market for a flat top grill or you already have one, you’ve probably noticed that there are differences between models that can sometimes be confusing.

Fortunately, there’s a good chance that Blackstone has a flat top grill that will suit your needs.

What to consider when buying a flat top grill

The first thing to consider is how many people your flat top grill will be feeding on a regular basis.

Different sized griddles mean versatility

Blackstone’s griddle products range in size from a 17” single burner up to 36” four-burner grills. Each has individual benefits so let’s look at all of them:

Blackstone 17” Griddle: The 17” griddle is the smallest vessel in the fleet but there’s no compromise in performance. This gas-powered griddle can run on a single one-pound propane tank or attach to an adaptor hose, fueled by a larger propane tank. It is great for cooking on smaller patios and balconies. Due to its size, it is lightweight and portable, making it a favorite for people who enjoy camping or who just appreciate the versatility of a smaller grill.

Blackstone 22” Griddle: The increased size from the 17” griddle to the 22” griddle may not seem like much, but 362 square inches is a lot more cooking space than it appears. This additional cooking space comes with a second burner, allowing you to cook and hold foods at the right temperature before serving. It can also be powered by smaller one-pound propane fuel tanks or connected to a larger tank for hours of cooking over the 24,000 BTU burners. This grill is still portable enough to take when you’re on the go, but spacious enough that it can have its own dedicated spot on your patio. There are different options for the 22” griddle. Depending on your needs, you can choose one with a stand and a side shelf or one with a hardcover or without a cover at all.

Blackstone 28” Griddle: One look at the 28” griddle and you know it means business. The larger cooking surface means more capacity to cook for a crowd with 34,000 BTUs over the two burners. This grill is the perfect size for either making it a permanent addition to your outdoor cooking space or one that can easily be rolled into the shed or garage on its four independent caster wheels when not in use. You will start to see additional accessories for the 28” griddle included on some models. They range from an affixed, hinged hardcover to an integrated air frying system along with side shelving. It sits at a comfortable countertop cooking height similar to your stove. Depending on the model, some will also boast side burners, storage cabinets, and convenient hooks and magnets allowing quick access to cooking tools.

Blackstone 36” griddle: This griddle is the flagship of our franchise and where the gas-powered outdoor griddle got its start.

It offers the most available cooking space and 60,000 BTUs of heat from four independently controlled gas burners. The 36” griddle is also the most innovative and has impressive features to make the cooking experience fun.

Depending on which model you choose, the 36” griddle has a place to stow away paper towels, seasonings, and cooking tools.  Some come with a cutting board and a place to hang a garbage bag. Other models have Blackstone’s integrated air fryer and warming drawer so there’s no limitation on what types of delicious foods you can cook.

 Are all Blackstone griddles gas-powered?

Although most Blackstone griddles run on gas, the E-series of electric griddles require no propane. Simply plug the E-series griddle into a standard 110V outlet and it can cook at temperatures ranging from 200F-500F with the turn of a knob.

The E-series griddles come in two sizes. A 17” griddle with a single heating zone and a 22” griddle with two independently controlled heat zones.

Unlike gas-powered griddles, the E-series griddle surface requires no seasoning. It comes with a hard, ceramic coating that is nonstick and easy to clean. The surface is removable and cleans up easily with light soap and water. To maintain the nonstick surface, it’s recommended to use utensils that are non-metal, like this 5-piece griddle tool kit.

Whether you’re grilling on the go or creating a cooking oasis in your own backyard, there’s a Blackstone griddle available that will suit your lifestyle.
